Dear Quicktime

Dear Quicktime,

Please stop installing your useless icons on my desktop, in my Quick Launch toolbar and in my system tray every time I update you. I get really, really tired of wasting my time deleting those stupid Qs as a result of your shenanigans. It might be some marketing ploy by your manufacturer to irritate PC users into getting a Mac, but it really makes me dislike them altogether.

    Amen.

It drives me up the wall - especially when upgrading iTunes or something. It should be intelligent and polite enough to realize I deleted the stupid things last time and not put them back again.

Hmm. No CC: to AOL or Earthlink or Dell or Microsof on this letter? Because I could have sworn those icons permeate PC desktops too.

I wouldn’t know, though. I get to choose where I want my apps on my Mac.

Sean: Yeehaw. I knew it wouldn’t take long for a Mac fanboy to emerge. :) I love subtly encouraging you folks to lash out.

Kidding, of course. In fact, you’re bound to love a little announcement I have this week. No leaks until the day arrives.

I do think Zack makes a great point about Qt on Windows. Why wouldn’t Apple make an app play smart on Windows to give those users an idea of what a quality app looks like? It would, perhaps, be an incentive to investigate Apple further. Instead, it’s frustrating to users and we (albeit slightly ignorantly) put Apple in the same category as AOL, Earthlink and all the other crapware out there.

Anywho. Just a thought. Stay tuned.

Uh oh. Sounds like you might have made a purchase, David…

Seriously though, while I certainly am a PC guy, Apple makes some great computers, and I certainly would never rule out adding one to the family. :)

I know I’m late on this one, but that’s why I’m a huge fan of Quicktime Alternative.  If you install it before iTunes (95% sure), it’ll work without having to install Quicktime.
