WordPress Admin Redesign: Shuttle

For the WordPress admininstration on this site, I use Steve Smith’s excellent Tiger Admin plugin. I love it. Not that the default WordPress administration design is unusable, I simply prefer the look and feel of Tiger.

But for folks who do use the default WordPress administration, you can look forward to Shuttle, a nice upgrade to the admin that will be available in the next WordPress release. It’s still up in the air whether Steve will be able to continue building Tiger. (Each major release merits adjustment to the plugin, especially this one where the XHTML for the admin will probably change significantly.) I still prefer Tiger, even over what I’ve seen of Shuttle, so here’s hoping Steve will stay the course. I must say though, the team compiled to create Shuttle is quite an assembly of talent and it will be a welcome upgrade for WordPress.

Shuttle looks promising. I’m with you though - I hope Steve Smith can keep updating and supporting Tiger Admin. You are right that the default Wordpress admin is horrible—but Tiger Admin is much simpler to navigate in my opinion.

Either way, nice to see another (what appears to be) capable option coming. :)

Zack: WordPress is such a strong blogging tool, especially for folks who are less inclined technologically. I like that the developers are thinking abot those folks and constructing WP accordingly, e.g. the WYSIWYG editor. It’s also extensible/scalable enough to keep guys like us happy.

I’m no WordPress zealot. I mean, there are several great CMS out there, including a few I’d love to have this blog run on. Textpattern and ExpressionEngine are two VERY excellent systems. But if I’m building a blog for anyone else, it’s WordPress. :)

Sorry. That response didn’t have much to do with your comment, but apparently I needed to flesh that out. :)

I am actually planning to setup a test TextPattern blog tonight…if my internet is actually working at the house. It was down last night and this morning when I left. Frustrating to say the least.

Anyways, I have little/no exposure to EE, but have looked at since you mentioned it to me. It looks to be outstanding. And while I would not consider myself a Wordpress zealot either, I have so far been very satisfied with it to date. I am looking forward to playing with TextPattern though. :)

Dude, careful. You just might convert! :)

Check out a couple of my fave Txp-based designers and the sites they’ve produced. These guys are real advocates of it, too. (I might’ve even mentioned them a time or two before.)

    Rob Soule: Dulles Church

Hmm… Are you considering DavidBlog to TxP? Just curious. :)

If it offered a lot of features I really wanted, I would think about it, but for what I am doing right now though, Wordpress is doing the job quite nicely. I definitely DO like the content organization of TextPattern, ie, Categories/Sections for Pages and Posts. We’ll see how it goes…right now, I wouldn’t convert my site just to do it, but if I just fell in love with TextPattern—well, I am certainly not married to WordPress.
