Flood
This video shows our basement flooding during a recent storm. In the past, we have had some moisture in the basement during heavy rains, but this time the water poured in and left three feet of standing water. We lost a few valuables and, worse, some sentimental things. I did manage to bring quite a few things upstairs during the ordeal, but I didn't have time to get it all. It took about 10 minutes for the water to peak. We lost power, which rendered the sump pump useless. About 4:30 am, power was restored. The basement was finally drained by the sump pump around 9:00 am.
Our property manager at John C. Formant realty was very responsive to our call. A contractor arrived just as the basement finished draining. Then a team of workers came to clear out the basement and remove the remaining water and mud. Missy and I decided what we wanted to salvage. The rest we piled up to be removed as trash. Our salvage pile was about 30% and the trash pile the rest! Other than a few precious items, most of what we lost were clothes and old books and papers. I had a rack of guitar gear that was damaged and all the rack units are likely unrepairable. Both my diplomas were stored downstairs and damaged. I should have put them on the wall and enjoyed them!
Still, these events cause us to be thankful of what we do have—family, friends and the Apple TV.

I had no idea that you guys had this kind of damage. I saw your tweets and stuff, but didn’t realize the severity.
Glad you and yours are okay and that the losses were no greater than they were.

WOW…. I am so sorry. That’s never fun. I hope you all get dried out soon. Did the animals ever come 2 x 2 down your streets?
