Images: A Day Out

I spent about ten hours of yesterday outdoors with camera in hand. In the end, I came up with a few shots worth a look. I’m still learning. But I told Missy last night, I really love photography. It’s just a great creative outlet for me.

Great photos. I think we should give you some love in the Summer Atlas.

If anything I’ve done makes it into the Summer Atlas, I will have truly achieved greatness.

Oh yes, the Atlas is truly the benchmark for the photography industry.

You think you like photography now, just wait until the baby gets here!  Great shots by the way.  You want to give up some details on equipment used to produce these shots?  Any post-production?

Dolan: Oh I know. When the wee one arrives, it’s going to be snap, snap, snap. :)

Zero post-production on the above shots. I’ve decided that for any images I post, I will always mention if there were touchups, but won’t mention it if they are natural.

My gear for all is a stock Nikon D40 with the stock Nikon 18-55mm II lens. I’m looking at the new Nikon 18-200mm VR AF zoom lens. I hope to acquire that soon.

I’m going to try to post some information about the new camera soon—-I’ve just put it off until I learn the controls (which, for me, really means learn how to photograph.)

    :)

before you go buying that wide angle/zoom lens, let me suggest you read this article

Joe: I wondered why you linked to the article and then I saw page two. That’s actually the lens I was intending to link to. I have no idea where I picked up the other. I’m still so new at this, it didn’t register with me that the focal length of 18-200mm was different the one I was looking at. I think I hit Ken’s site looking for “VR” and didn’t pay attention to anything else (like an idiot.) :) I’m really happy so far with the stock 18-55mm lens that came with my D40. The only gripe would be getting into telephoto range, which would be solved with the 55-200mm lens. (And feel free to correct me if none of that makes sense. I’m just getting the hang of the terminology and I might be a bit off-course.)

Dolan: For clarification, I am not looking at the Nikon 18-200mm VR AF zoom lens, but the Nikon 55-200mm VR AF zoom instead.

Oh and I do want that 50mm f1.8 lens mentioned at the end of the article. I saw some stuff done with that on the D40/x Challenge Flickr group and I was quite impressed. It looks like fun.

@StateDOG It's almost always a fun game in my book, regardless of outcome. Yeah man, we are really glad to be back. Going well!

@StateDOG Yes, me too. Except I am hoping for the same general outcome. W for AU. :)
